4 Warnings Signs That Your Roof Is in Need of Repair

While your roof is arguably among the sturdiest structures in your entire home, it’s not immune to wear. If there’s only minor damage, you might think it’s fine to defer your roof repair. Your home, however, runs the risk of accruing more damage, which will then necessitate more expensive repair work.

Safe Harbor Exteriors lists four warning signs that your roofing needs repair.

1. Worn-Out Flashings

A worn-out flashing is a tell-tale sign that your roof structure has accrued some level of moisture damage. The flashings, after all, are responsible for protecting your home from water intrusion. If you spot a damaged flashing strip, check the surrounding shingles as they’re likely in need of repair work.

2. Leaks in the Attic

Have a look at your attic space, and see if there is a trace of sunlight entering from your roof. If there are, chances are there’s a leak somewhere and that your attic space may have experienced water damage at some point. We recommend immediate roof repair to address even the smallest leaks as they can rapidly grow in size in just a matter of weeks. Failure to address them will result in a more expensive leak patching project.

3. Sagging Roof Deck

If you notice that a localized part of the roof deck or rafters in the attic are sagging instead of staying straight, then it means it has experienced considerable moisture damage. It’s imperative that you address this immediately as the moisture can easily “travel” to other parts of the deck.

4. Higher Energy Bills

It’s a more subtle warning, but a higher energy bill means that your roof is letting warm air in more often during summer. This can be due to a leak or moisture damage affecting your roof ventilation. We can inspect your roof and address any ventilation problems ASAP.

We talked to multiple companies while deciding who to use for the exterior of our home. Safe Harbor was transparent, fast, and offered James Hardie siding compared to all the other companies only offering vinyl. Safe Harbor was much more affordable than many of the other companies, who just wanted as much money as possible. We are extremely happy with our siding, soffit, fascia, flashing, gutters, windows and the guarantee that comes with their work. If there was any more work to be performed, without a doubt, we would chose safe Harbor again.

Safe Harbor installed James Hardie siding, soffits, and gutters. The install was meticulous and our home was left cleaner than when the company showed up. The level of detail in the install was beyond expectation! We are so pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the install team!
